COF Announces 3 Awards

COF
Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the following Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation awards:

COA Basic Science Course Scholarship

Dr. Marie-Claude (MC) Magnan (University of Ottawa) – “The challenges in diagnosing and managing primary bone angiosarcoma of the distal femur in a 38-year-old male”

In partnership with Dr. Thomas V. Smallman and the COA Basic Science Course, the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation established the COA Basic Science Course Scholarship to create an incentive for orthopaedic residents to benefit from the process of analyzing, and preparing for presentation, the relevant aspects of a challenging clinical case.

Bones and Phones Scholarship

Dr. Kristen Barton (Western University) – “Joint Management: An Online Web-Based Platform to Support Individuals with Mild to Moderate Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis

Founded by Dr. Veronica Wadey and Mr. Henry Chow, the Bones and Phones Legacy Scholarship Fund recognizes orthopaedic residents who have demonstrated commitment and contribution to enhancing musculoskeletal health beyond that which would be expected during their residency training period.

Robin Richards Award for Upper Extremity Research

Dr. Patrick Chin (Vancouver, BC) “A Multi-Centre, Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing a Second-Generation Uncemented Trabecular Metal-backed vs Cemented Polyethylene Glenoid Component in Total Shoulder Arthroplasty: Five-Year Results”

Thanks to a generous endowment fund donated by Dr. Robin Richards, this award was established to recognize the best upper extremity research submission at the Canadian Orthopaedic Association annual meeting. All papers in upper extremity research accepted for the COA meeting are eligible, and are reviewed by a COF research review panel.
